Barry Ferguson blasts Rangers defending as Ben Davies' Celtic error has Ibrox hero screaming 'put your head through it'

Barry Ferguson has been left lamenting the defending of Ben Davies in Rangers' loss to Celtic at Parkhead.

The 3-2 Premiership win for the champions leaves them 12 points in front of the Light Blues with seven games to go, and having dropped four all season, a comeback in the title race now seems unlikely. It was 1-1 going into the second half after James Tavernier's free kick cancelled out Kyogo's opener, but Davies' two botched attempts at a clearance soon after the restart allowed the Japanese star to score again.

John Souttar's loose back pass then put Jota in to score and another Tavernier goal for Rangers couldn't pick up the pieces. And that second effort has left former captain and Record Sport columnist Ferguson far from happy, telling Go Radio: "Overall you can take some positives out of it but it is another defeat against Celtic which is hard to take. There were good performances.

"But it is disappointing - the two goals they lost in the second half - as they can do a lot better. Especially the second half, with the one that put Celtic 2-1 in front, it is a bad clearance.

"But he gets another opportunity and he has to do better. Stick your head on it and put it out for a corner, get back in and defend. It's so poor.

"He doesn't do well with putting the clearance up in the air but again, just put your head through it. That's a real poor goal to lose."
