Barrie McKay in Hearts 'take off' statement as he predicts when goal contributions will flow freely

Hearts winger Barrie McKay says it'll only be a matter of time before his goal contributions head on a fast upward curve.

The former Rangers and Swansea City player scored an impressive solo goal on Saturday that sealed a 2-1 victory for Hearts against Ross County on Premiership matchday 1 at Tynecastle. It was a first competitive match with new signings Lawrence Shankland and Alan Forrest - who also scored - for McKay ahead of next Sunday's huge Edinburgh derby with Hibs.

His first campaign won many plaudits and 12 assists, with the 27-year-old confident he can replicate similar numbers when used to playing with his new teammates: "We were a good team last year. Now it’s just about building up relationships. That is only the second time I have played with Lawrence (Shankland) It was the same when I came in last year.

"It’s just about everybody getting to know what I’m going to do when I get the ball. I think you saw that in the second half of last season.

"Once I had been here for a few months everybody knew what I was going to do. My assists really took off from there and hopefully I can do that again this year."
