Barney the Dinosaur gets 'dark' live action reboot from Get Out and MCU star

One of the most beloved children's television shows is about to get a 'dark' live action reboot movie.

Barney the Dinosaur was a favourite of millions of British and Irish children when it originally aired from 1992 until 2010.

The actions of the giant purple tyrannosaurus rex had kids hooked, with catchy melodies and learning techniques making it a hit with parents as well.

But now, we're set to get reintroduced to a completely different side of the dinosaur, thanks to a new film involving a Black Panther and Get Out star.

Daniel Kaluuya has let some interesting insights slip, and has been working on the film since 2017.

He spoke of his newly formed production company 59% and how he was now full steam ahead on the film.

Production company 59% will be producing the Barney remake, alongside Valparaiso Pictures and Mattel.

Daniel explained: “My last number of films have been so aligned to kind of what I stand for as a man.

“But there are a whole lot of things that I do as a man. I love kids’ films.

"How did everyone get into films? Watching kids’ films. I don’t want to restrict myself to the limitations of what I’m perceived as.”

What will be different?

Daniel said: “Barney taught us, 'I love you, you love me. Won't you say you love me too?' That's one of the first songs I remember, and what happens when that isn't true? I thought that was really heartbreaking.

“I have no idea why but it feels like that makes sense. It feels like there's something unexpected that can be poignant but optimistic.

“Especially at this time now, I think that's really, really needed.”

When will the new Barney film be released?

It's been in the running for a couple of years and as of yet we haven't got a release date.

We also don't know whether his old friends Baby Bop, BJ and Riff will make an appearance in the feature.
