Barnabas Varga pictured in hospital after Scotland vs Hungary injury

Barnabas Varga has been pictured smiling in hospital just days after his horror head injury during Hungary's win over Scotland in Stuttgart.

The striker was involved in a horrible head collision with goalkeeper Angus Gunn during the second half of the final Euro 2024 Group A match.

The 29-year-old immediately went to ground after trying to get on the end of a free kick.

However, instead, he accidentally collided with Gunn's mid-drift in full flight and was left out cold on the turf, as players on both sides frantically waved down medical attention.

There was a lengthy delay to the game, as the player was treated with car by medics and eventually stretchered off the pitch, with many of Varga's teammates visibly distressed.

At the end of the game, 10 minutes of stoppage time were added. Hungary snatched a winner in the final moment of that period, which dumped Steve Clarke's side out of the tournament.

An update regarding Varga's condition was provided a short while after the game, with the Hungarian FA confirming he was in a stable condition in hospital. It was later revealed he'd undergone an operation on a fractured cheek.

Now, a photo posted on social media site X shows the Hungarian forward smiling, alongside backroom staff members of the national team.

He was visited by boss Marco Rossi, as well as international and club teammate Endre Botka.

A statement from the Hungarian FA read: "Led by Marco Rossi, some members of the professional staff and Endre Botka, representing the players, visited Barnabás Varga in Klinikum Stuttgart. The visitors interpreted the wishes of the whole team for the player."

Hungary faces an anxious wait to discover if their three points from three Group A fixtures will be enough to see them into the knockout rounds of the competition in Germany.
