Barclaycard users furious after being unable to make contactless payments 'for weeks'

Barclaycard customers have been left less than impressed after the credit card company confirmed there is an ongoing issue with payments.

Card users have been having to use chip and pin payments as opposed to using contactless due to a technical glitch.

Some Barclaycard credit cardholders have said that they haven’t been able to use contactless since March, according to MoneySavingExpert, who first reported the issue.

However, the consumer rights website says Barclaycard won’t be compensating affected customers, as they haven’t experienced financial loss.

Barclaycard users have taken to social media to vent their frustration.

One person said: “So Barclaycard my contactless hasn’t worked since March and your complaints team just called to say tough and no resolution in sight.

“And issues with your social media team are ‘just the way it is’. Telephone queue is ‘Covid’. Complete lack of customer service. V poor show guys.”

Another tweeted: “Contactless has not been functioning on my card for weeks now. Please advise when this will be fixed. Can't get through on the contact number again, 30+ minute wait.”

A third said: “What is going on with contactless not working? It’s been about a month now and every time I try to pay contactless it declines and I have to put my card in.”

A fourth complained: “Had a new card. Contactless worked then stopped. Sent new card. Same.

“Apparently, limited number of contactless transactions, then chip & pin only. Been a month. How long is this going to take?”

Barclaycard hasn't given a date for when it expects the issue to be fixed, or said what is causing the problem.

It also isn't clear exactly how many customers are being affected.

If you're unhappy with Barclaycard, you can complain by contacting its customer service team through its app, by phoning 0800 151 0900 or 0333 200 9090 or by writing to: Barclaycard, PO Box 10200, Wigston, LE18 9ER.

A spokesperson for Barclaycard said: "We are currently experiencing a technological issue impacting the contactless functionality for some Barclaycard cardholders.

“We are working hard to fix the issue, and a resolution is on track to be implemented in the coming days.

"All impacted customers have been contacted to make them aware, and we will contact them again once the issue is resolved.

“We would like to apologise to all impacted customers for the inconvenience caused."
