Barcelona 'turn down' chance to sign Roberto Firmino as new plan emerges

Roberto Firmino is reportedly set to miss out on a move to Barcelona once his contract expires at Liverpool in the summer.

The Brazilian personally informed Jurgen Klopp he will not be putting pen-to-paper on the contract on the table from the Reds after an eight-year stay at Anfield.

Firmino has been linked with many clubs since the news of his exit emerged, with La Liga leaders Barcelona being the latest to apparently show an interest in the forward.

According to Luis Rojo of MARCA, Barcelona were offered the chance to sign Firmino on a free transfer in the summer.

But that option was turned down, reportedly because they have a new plan to re-sign Lionel Messi and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Since completing a move to Merseyside in the summer of 2015 from Hoffenheim, Firmino has gone on to win every major honour under Klopp and registered 360 appearances while making the false nine position his own.

Other rumoured destinations for Firmino include Galatasaray - and potentially a switch to play MLS in America.
