Barcelona Trying Special Treatment To Expedite Yamal's Recovery

La Liga leaders Barcelona are reportedly trying a unique treatment to help Lamine Yamal recover from his ankle injury.

The 17-year-old Spain international suffered a grade 1 injury to his anterior inter-tibiofibular ligament during the Blaugrana’s 1-0 defeat to Leganes in La Liga on Sunday, 15th December. This injury could sideline the 2024 Golden Boy winner for the next few weeks.

The Catalan giants are going through a tumultuous phase in La Liga. After enjoying a blistering start under Hansi Flick, they have lost their way, with them picking up just one win in their last six matches (2 D, 3 L). Their poor form has allowed Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid to close in, with Los Rojiblancos level on 38 points and Los Blancos trailing by just one. Both Madrid clubs have a game in hand.

Barcelona Trying Special Treatment to Expedite Lamine Yamal’s Recovery

Without Yamal in the starting XI, Barcelona have won just one game this season. So, naturally, they want him back as quickly as possible.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona is administering a platelet-rich plasma treatment to aid Yamal’s recovery. This treatment uses growth factors to stimulate the healing process in the affected area. The La Masia graduate is also wearing a special boot to protect his ankle during the recovery period.

Barcelona will return to La Liga action with a top-of-the-table clash with Atletico Madrid on Saturday, 21st December. Barcelona know they will have to manage with Yamal in that game, but they want him back before they fight for the first silverware of the season in January.

The newly revamped Supercopa de Espana will take place from the 8th to the 12th of January in Saudi Arabia. Barcelona’s medical team is optimistic Yamal will recover in time to participate in the competition. The semi-final clash with Athletic Bilbao on 8th January could be Yamal’s first game of 2025.

Yamal has been absolutely crucial to Flick’s plans this season. He has been a handful in the final third, worked tirelessly from start to finish, and effortlessly brought his teammates into the fold. Since the start of the 2024-25 campaign, Yamal has played 21 games for the club in all competitions, scoring six goals and providing 12 assists.
