Barcelona star Gavi lands female fan's 'phone number' during shirt signing

A female supporter appeared to give her phone number to Barcelona star Gavi after the youngster committed himself to a new long-term deal at the Camp Nou.

The Catalan giants confirmed that the young midfielder had penned fresh terms on a deal that is set to run until the summer of 2026. A €1billion (£870million) buyout clause has been written into the agreement - as per Spanish law - so it appears as though 18-year-old will not be going anywhere any time soon.

With Barcelona having organised supporters an opportunity to meet Gavi following the news, it appeared that one keen fan tried their luck to get more than just an autograph.

In footage shared on social media, one female supporter handed Gavi a flag to sign before giving him a small note. Some supporters have speculated that she was giving the Barcelona star her phone number although it remains to be seen specifically what was written on the piece of paper.

Regardless, Gavi then placed it on his lap before taking a photograph with the fan.

Gavi's new contract is just the latest chapter in what has already been an extremely exciting fledgling career. Having progressed through the club’s famed La Masia academy, he has gone on to become a key member of the first team.

He has accumulated 53 appearances for the club so far, scoring twice. His displays over the last few years have seen him linked with a move away - Premier League duo Chelsea and Manchester United having been linked.

However, he has elected to remain with Barcelona and spoke highly of the club for playing a big part in his development thus far.

Speaking after penning his new deal, he said: "I am very happy with the renewal, it's something I've dreamed about since I was little. We have always known that we wanted to be successful here and today makes me very happy".

"I was helped a great deal when I was at La Masia and I am very grateful. Living there is something special, and I am very grateful to everyone involved there. I was taught to work hard and remain humble from an early age. I tried to take it in my stride as much as I could, being at La Masia also really helped me in this respect.”

Meanwhile, boss Xavi has previously been highly complimentary of the young Spaniard. Speaking after a 3-0 win over Sevilla earlier this season, he said: "I think he was the best player of the game, because of his intensity, how he fights, because of the passes, the high pressure.

"He's a heart with legs. He puts passion into it. His intensity gives us a lot."
