Barcelona president issues major Ousmane Dembele transfer update amid Chelsea interest

Barcelona's president Joan Laporta has kept the possibilities open of seeing Ousmane Dembele make an 11th hour move to Chelsea amid conflicting reports in the English and Spanish media.

The winger has looked destined to leave Barcelona throughout the January transfer window and on Sunday night, it was reported that he had decided to join PSG as a means of moving on as soon as possible.

But the two clubs appear to have been unable to come to an agreement, with Dembele's contract at the Camp Nou set to expire in the summer.

Given Thomas Tuchel's previous connections with the 24-year-old from their time at Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea had been installed as one of the favourites to complete a deal.

The question now though is - will this be now or at the end of the season when the 2022 summer transfer window opens its doors for business?

The winger, who attended Barca training on Monday evening, has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea before the 11pm deadline, with some media outlets reporting that a medical has been booked. It's unclear if that is true at this stage.

With it being unknown where this deal is exactly going at this current moment, some supporters are comparing this 'chaos', as reported by Sport Witness, to the Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona situation.

It obviously remains to be seen how both transfer saga's pan out in the next few hours, but if Barca president Laporta's words are anything to go by, then we could potentially be witnessing some crazy deadline day antics from Marina Granovskaia and co.

Laporta is certainly not giving up the ghost in trying to shift a player out of the club who is now viewed as surplus to requirements by Xavi and co in Catalunya.

He told the Spanish media: "Dembélé? We're searching for the best solution for the player and the club.

"Various solutions have been proposed, the last one depends on whether the player accepts it, it is to go to an English club."

Is that best 'solution' now to wait until the summer before the 24-year-old's contract runs out?

Only time will tell but time will also tell whether or not these latest set of Spurs rumours surrounding the injury prone attacker being 'a serious option' for the north Londoners are true or not come 11 PM on Monday night as Barcelona desperately scramble to sort this situation out.
