Barcelona legend Carles Puyol praised the ‘amazing’ Luis Diaz after his stunning equalising goal against Crystal Palace.
The Colombian picked up the ball on the left-hand touchline and jinked past several defenders before firing a shot into the far corner, levelling the score at 1-1 and sending Anfield into rapture.
Diaz’s goal reignited hope just four minutes after a moment of madness from Darwin Nunez saw him sent off for a headbutt on Joachim Andersen. Patrick Vieira’s Palace had frustrated the Reds all night, defending resolutely and nicking a goal on the counter, but a moment of magic from the winger put Liverpool back in the game.
PLAYER RATINGS: Darwin Nunez stupid but Harvey Elliott good against Crystal Palace
FAN REACTION: Liverpool fans bemoan striker's sending off against Crystal Palace
And former Barcelona and Spain defender Puyol showed his love for the Colombian, tweeting: “Amazing Luis Diaz”
The former Porto forward’s goal encouraged the Reds to push for a winner despite being a man down, but Palace continued to scrap for a valuable point and the score ended level. The result leaves Jurgen Klopp’s side on two points from their opening two games, with a trip to Manchester United up next.
They will be without Nunez for that and potentially two further games, with the Uruguayan likely to be suspended for at least three matches for violent conduct.
