Barcelona facing big Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang decision straight after sealing deal with Arsenal

Former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is already facing a tough moment in Barcelona despite barely getting his foot in the door with the Spanish club.

There are still details to be ironed with the deal and technically he remains a free agent while the Catalan giants attempt to register Aubameyang with La Liga, with Arsenal allowing him to essentially leave the club on a free transfer by cutting short his deal in north London.

It is a familiar problem for Barcelona. Sergio Aguero was signed in the summer but was unable to play for weeks with the club unable to register him due to financial restrictions.

But Aubameyang and the club have another tough decision to make imminently ahead of their Europa League play-off clash with Napoli on February 17.

As reported by The Athletic, Barcelona will have to omit one of their four January signings from their Europa League squad due to UEFA's rules.

Adama Traore, Dani Alves and Ferran Torres have all joined Aubameyang at Camp Nou as Xavi looks to shape the side in his image since taking over from Ronald Koeman.

UEFA rules mean that clubs can only register three new arrivals in the competition once they have entered into the knockout stages of their competitions.

One of the high profile recruits, therefore, will have to miss out.

Aubameyang had been training alone at Arsenal and was left at home while the Gunners set off for warm weather training in Dubai in January following a disciplinary breach at the end of 2021.

The marksman returned late from a trip to France and Mikel Arteta showed no mercy in his response, stripping him of the club captaincy before banishing him from first-team activities.
