Liverpool's hopes of capturing Mason Mount this summer could now face a challenge from Barcelona, according to reports.
The England midfielder has been with Chelsea since he was six years old, but is yet to agree a new contract with the West London club, fuelling speculation that his time at Stamford Bridge could be about to come to a close.
Liverpool are known to be looking to bolster their midfield at the end of the season and Mount's profile fits the bill, with his qualification as a home-grown player an added bonus.

But according to Calciomercato, Catalan giants Barcelona are ready to join the race for the 24-year-old's signature. Mount's current contract is not due to expire until 2024, but with numerous new arrivals at Stamford Bridge last month, including Enzo Fernandez and Joao Felix, Mount has reportedly been seeking a considerably enhanced contract that would put him on comparative pay level with some of his big-name peers.
But with the two parties yet to agree any kind of deal, Graham Potter may be forced to cash in on Mount this summer while he still can.
Barcelona are currently top of LaLiga, after enjoying a resurgence under manager Xavi. The club will almost certainly be able to guarantee Mount Champions League football next season, while Liverpool - who are known to also be in hot pursuit of teenage midfield sensation Jude Bellingham - have got a serious fight on their hands to make it into the Premier League top four before the end of the current campaign.
