Barcelona and Juventus make desperate Celtic, Rangers plea with Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham rule

Premier League clubs could be frozen out of a new European Super League (ESL) if the tournament is created.

Currently, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus are all locked into a court case which is expected to conclude in December over UEFA's monopoly on European football after the governing body blocked the ESL's creation in 2021.

Each of the three clubs are determined to wrestle for more control of commercial and footballing power in the European game. The belief being that multi-billion pound TV and marketing deals in the Premier League makes it hard to compete with.

Although Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham initially joined the ESL, their participation is likely over and could even be pushed out legally. Celtic, Rangers and Ajax are all in the mix as potential targets, write the Mirror, with issues still remaining for European sides in the set-up and structure of competitions.

This is despite changes due to come in 2024 which will reshape the model used in the Champions League and would likely aid English clubs further due to such strong recent performances. There is a large chance that a fifth Champions League spot will be added to the Premier League.

Clubs in Spain and Italy have seen English clubs going further in Europe with Liverpool contesting three finals in four years and Chelsea playing Manchester City in the only season the Reds missed out. European countries weren't as opposed to the ESL as Premier League sides were and that does open the door for Rangers and Celtic to take advantage of the plans which would likely aid them financially, especially given their collective struggles in the tournament this year.

Fans of Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham may not be too bothered by this, given that they were so against the ESL, but those owners who are keeping an open mind in the long-term may find their paths blocked should anything come from it.
