Barbie x Doctor Who: Pink Tardis promo appears at Tower Bridge

A pink Tardis has been spotted in London, which can only mean one thing: a collaboration between Doctor Who and Barbie.

The police call box from the BBC1 series pitched up on Wednesday next to Tower Bridge for the stunt and has been painted a hot shade of magenta.

A sign next to it read: “Warner Bros (the Company) is currently filming for a promotional and publicity campaign for Barbie.” It adds that anyone not wishing to be in the video should not hang around in the area.

Producers of both Barbie and Doctor Who have shared images of the time-travelling Tardis on social media and the partnership is all down to Ncuti Gatwa. The British actor is starring in the Greta Gerwig film, which will be released on July 21 in the UK, and will also play the eponymous lead in Doctor Who.

Rwandan-born Gatwa is set to be the 15th Doctor when the series reboots next year after David Tennant returns later this year to reprise his old role in special episodes.

Warner Brothers, the film’s production company, is behind the stunt. Other tie-ins have included a pink Barbie car parked next to the London Eye.

“Come on TARDIS, let’s go party 💖💖 #DoctorWho,” tweeted the Doctor Who page.

Warner Brothers reshared the love with a tweet: “A pink TARDIS from @BBCDoctorWho has landed on the banks of Tower Bridge.”

The production company was also giving away crowd wristbands for fans to catch a glimpse of the European premiere in Leicester Square.

Gatwa will play one of several Ken characters in the Barbie universe. In the film, Margot Robbie’s Barbie is expelled from the doll utopia and has to make a go of it in the real world, alongside her Ken – played by Ryan Gosling.
