Barbie Snubbed At Recent Awards Show, Facing Stiff Competition

Barbie lost at SAG Awards despite box office success and critical acclaim.

Barbie, the highly acclaimed comedy starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, faced disappointment at the recent Screen Actors Guild Awards. Despite its immense success at the box office and critical acclaim, the film failed to secure any wins at the prestigious event.

The Greta Gerwig-directed movie, which grossed an impressive $1.45 billion and holds a Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score of 88%, was nominated for four SAG Awards, including Outstanding Cast and performances by Robbie and Gosling. However, it lost out in all categories to other contenders.

It appears that the SAG Awards favored dramas over comedies in the movie categories, with Barbie being overshadowed by films like Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon. Despite this setback, Barbie remains a strong contender for the upcoming Oscars, where it has received eight nominations, including Best Picture.

Barbie faces stiff competition from Oppenheimer, which has been dominating the awards season with multiple wins across various ceremonies. The Christopher Nolan-directed film received 13 Oscar nominations, making it a formidable opponent for Barbie in key categories.

While Barbie has excelled in categories like Best Original Song, where it is competing with itself, Oppenheimer has consistently outperformed it in major awards shows. The rivalry between the two films has been closely watched by industry insiders and fans alike.

Directed by Greta Gerwig and co-written with Noah Baumbach, Barbie follows the story of a live-action version of the iconic Mattel doll as she embarks on a journey to find happiness in the real world alongside Ken, played by Ryan Gosling. The star-studded cast also includes Simu Liu, Will Ferrell, and other notable celebrities in cameo roles.
