Thanks to the raging popularity of the social phenomenon ‘Barbenheimer,' (moviegoers seeing 'Barbie' and 'Oppenheimer' in the same day) the summer movie theater experience came back in a big way this year.
The winner of the pair was easily the Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) -) hit ‘Barbie’, bringing in swarms of viewers clad in bright pink to celebrate the occasion.
A little over a month later, ‘Barbie’ fans are still forking over dollars to see Mattel’s (MAT) -) famous doll strut her pointed toes across the screen. The movie is on its way to becoming Warner Bros. Discovery’s highest-grossing movie of all time.

Currently, the record is held by the final chapter in the 8-part ‘Harry Potter’ film series. And sure, Barbie had her own fan following long before Greta Gerwig’s box-office smash movie was born. But a first-chapter film competing for the studio’s highest-grossing spot would be impressive.

Christopher Nolan’s historical drama ‘Oppenheimer’ is still going strong when it comes to theater attendance. After the weekend, the Universal (CMCSA) -) film is approaching the $800 million gross mark. Nolan reportedly traveled to China ahead of the film’s launch on August 30.
Consumers participating in the ‘Barbenheimer’ experience have given several businesses -- and the general economy -- a well-needed breath of life in the last month. AMC Theaters AMC saw the busiest box office weekend in four years, boosting its stock price by 28.7% on the following Monday.
Unfortunately, Warner Bros. Discovery stock price missed the Barbie party bus -- its stock price hasn’t seen the same leg up.
