A young actress has revealed her first acting gig was Margot Robbie's body double in the upcoming Barbie film - claiming even the star mistook her for her own reflection. Emma Eastwood was signed up to be Margot's body double in July 2022 by her acting agency after being dropped as an extra from the film.
Despite it being the 26-year-old's first professional acting stint she admits it was 'iconic' to stand in for Barbie - and Robbie. Whilst filming, she wore the same costumes as Margot meaning that their bodies had to be exactly the same size and said her favourite outfit was Barbie's blue sailor dress.
And Emma says that whenever she tells men that she is a big fan of the actress, they often tell her she looks like Margot herself - in a bid to 'flirt' with her. The young actress admits she only got to meet the star a couple of times but Margot was 'startled' when she saw Emma and exclaimed that she'd 'never ran into herself before'.
The incredible opportunity has led pals to dub her 'Barbie' from here on. Emma, who is currently living in Shepherd's Bush, London, said: "It was very stressful because me being her double relied on how well the costume fit me.
"We were filming in the heatwave last summer and I was so hot and sweating and I had to put on this denim jumpsuit - thankfully it fit. I wore all the same costumes as Margot so I had to fit in them exactly.
"It was interesting because we filled out the costumes differently. Where it was tight on me it was loose on her and where it was tight on her it was loose on me so this worried me as I thought I might get cut, but luckily I didn't and got to be Barbie's double.
"I featured in scenes where Barbie wasn't the focus of the shot. For example, where her dialogue had already been filmed and so it was the just the back of my head or me stepping into shoes and walking up and down stairs.
"All of the things that they didn't need Margot's face for."
Whilst shooting at the Warner Bros. Studio in London, Emma said she met Margot a couple of times and on one occasion when she bumped into the star, Margot thought she was looking in a mirror. Emma, who was born in San Francisco, California, US, said: "The first time I met her she was lovely and I almost cried.
"I only chatted to her once for about five minutes because the rest of the time we were working. When I did speak to her, I was coming on to set and there was a heavy door that I was struggling to open.
"When I got through, it swung open and Margot Robbie was coming off set on the other side. We ran into each other and we were so startled.
"She said to me 'Oh I've never ran into myself before' and I literally had to grab onto a wall. I was so shocked to see her. I hadn't prepared myself for this.
"She was actually coming off set to find me and thank me for everything I was doing. She had watched some of the footage back and was like 'wow it looks great but I don't remember filming this' and the director had to be like 'Margot that's not you'.
"She said she felt like she was looking in a mirror, which was crazy."
Emma says men have told her in the past that she looks like Margot Robbie but has never believed them. Now she says if Margot ever asked her to become her full-time body double, she would jump at the opportunity.
Emma said: "I've had people tell me in the past I look like her but have never believed them. It was mostly men as it was their way of flirting and I guess it kind of worked.
"Normally I would mention that I loved Margot Robbie and that's when they would say I look like her. It was their way of flirting.
"My friends will introduce me as Barbie or Margot. When they say Barbie, I think people just think it's because I'm blonde but Margot confuses people.
"I tend to not bring it up myself [about me being Barbie's body double] but if people bring it up, I definitely speak about it. On set, I really wanted to impress Margot to hope that she would ask me to be her double forever - this would be a gig of a lifetime."
Emma was on set for the last two weeks of the movie's filming but sadly didn't get to meet Ryan Gosling and is still waiting to meet 'her' Ken. Emma added: "I didn't get to meet Ryan Gosling and I'm kind of glad because I don't think I would have been very chilled.
"I spent a lot of time with Kate McKinnon and met America Ferrera briefly. Everyone was really lovely. I appreciate how big of an icon Barbie is and am extremely excited to be a part of it.
"I sometimes forget I actually played Barbie - it's crazy. I haven't seen the film yet and I don't know if I'll get invited to the premiere as they are very exclusive, but I will definitely be paying a lot of money to see the film multiple times."
