Barbie Director Hints At Possible Ken Sequel In Works

Greta Gerwig hints at Barbie sequel

Barbie director Greta Gerwig has hinted at the possibility of a sequel based on Ken. Barbie became an international sensation in July 2023, grossing $1 billion in just three weeks. Gerwig suggested that a Ken sequel could be in the works but refrained from confirming any plans.

Gerwig and filmmaker Noah Baumbach revealed that Ryan Gosling was their top choice to portray Ken in Barbie. Gosling's name was even written next to the character's lines in the initial script. Gerwig mentioned that they had an abundance of material for Ken, indicating the character's significance in the storyline.

Earlier this year, Gosling shared that his daughters, Esmerelda and Amada, had not yet watched Barbie. He humorously expressed uncertainty about the appropriate age for his children to see him as Ken, given the film's lively nature. Gosling recounted how his daughters gradually developed an interest in Barbies after visiting the set and witnessing a musical number.

Despite the film's success, Gosling noted his daughters' lack of enthusiasm for the Ken character, finding it intriguing. He shared a light-hearted anecdote about his family's evolving interest in Barbie dolls, culminating in his daughters' desire to own Barbies.

As discussions about a potential Ken sequel continue, fans eagerly await further updates on the Barbie franchise's future. Gerwig's comments have sparked speculation and excitement among viewers, hinting at possible new developments in the beloved toy-inspired cinematic universe.
