Some beautiful weather last week gave people hope that the spate of bad weather that blasted Ireland throughout March and some of April was long finished and temperatures were set to climb.
While it has steadily been getting warmer, hopes for a Bank Holiday weekend in the sun may be derailed as Met Eireann has forecast a week dominated by "patchy rain" and "scattered showers".
However, there is still hope of a chance to get out and about over the Bank Holiday weekend with the national forecaster having said there will be some "sunny spells" from Friday onwards mixed with some scattered showers. Here is Met Eireann’s forecast for the week ahead:

According to Met Eireann, it will be mostly cloudy on Thursday with outbreaks of rain and drizzle slowly feeding up from the southwest. Highest temperatures of 10C to 14C, in light east to southeast breezes.
Thursday night will see patches of rain early, becoming mainly confined to western coasts overnight with clear spells developing. Lowest temperatures of 5C to 8C in light variable breezes. Some mist or shallow fog patches too.
On Friday, scattered showers will largely affect the western half of the country with bright or sunny spells further east. Highest temperatures of 15C to 18C in just light southerly breezes.
Moving into the Bank Holiday weekend, there will be clear spells on Friday night giving way to mostly cloudy conditions building from the west, along with outbreaks of rain. Lowest temperatures of 9C to 11C with winds falling light and variable.
There is set to be a mostly cloudy start to Saturday with patchy rain or drizzle, followed by sunny spells breaking out later on in the day. Warm with the highest temperatures of 15C to 18C, with light to moderate westerly winds.
Current indications suggest that the rest of the Bank Holiday weekend will bring a mix of cloud and sunny spells with scattered showers. Mild with highest temperatures of 14C to 18C with very light southerly breezes.
