The Queen’s funeral takes place today and many supermarkets and shops have decided to close for the bank holiday.
Most retailers, including Primark, John Lewis and Home Bargains, are closing for the entire day as a mark of respect to Her Majesty. The move also allows staff the opportunity to watch the funeral, which will begin at 11am today.
If you desperately need to pick up some essential items today, there are some exceptions. While most of the big stores remain closed throughout the day, some of the smaller convenience stores will open at select times. We’ve rounded up what to expect if you need to visit a supermarket today:

Asda
All Asda stores will be closed from midnight on Sunday, September 18 to 5pm today, September 19. There will be no online deliveries that day.
Tesco
The big Tesco supermarkets will be closed all day and smaller Express stores will remain closed until 5pm.
Aldi
All Aldi stores will be closed to allow store colleagues to ‘pay tribute’ to Her Majesty The Queen.
Morrisons
Morrisons will close all its stores as a mark of respect.
Sainsbury’s
Sainsbury’s supermarkets and Argos will be closed. Convenience stores and petrol filling stations will open from 5pm-10pm to allow our customers to pick up essential items. Select stores in central London will open to serve those attending the funeral.

M&S
Marks and Spencer stores will be closed all day apart from a ‘small number’ of stores in London and Windsor so mourners can buy food and refreshments. These stores will close by 10.30am and remain closed for the rest of the day, except the four stores closest to Westminster Abbey and St George’s Chapel, Windsor, which will reopen after the funeral service.
Stores operated by franchise partners in key travel hubs and public service locations, such as hospitals, are expected to remain open. There will be no customer delivery services.
Lidl
All Lidl stores in England, Scotland and Wales will be closed to allow colleagues ‘to pay their respects’.
Co-op
Co-op stores will be closed up until 5pm when they will reopen for customers.
