The bank holiday for Christmas Day will not take place on December 25.
Christmas Day this year falls on a Sunday. If a bank holiday is on a weekend, a ‘substitute’ weekday becomes a bank holiday, normally the following Monday. Your employer doesn’t have to give you paid leave on bank or public holiday and bank holidays might affect how and when your benefits are paid.
This year, the Christmas Day bank holiday will be observed on December 27. The New Year's Day bank holiday will not be held on January 1, but rather January 2.
