Bangor traffic: Motorists warned of delays due to malfunctioning traffic lights

Motorists are being warned of delays on a busy road outside Bangor due to a traffic light malfunction.

The traffic lights on the Belfast Road at the Ballysallagh Road junction, have stopped working causing delays in the area for motorists.

Police are asking drivers to excercise caution in the area until the issue has been resolved.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Motorists are advised of delays outside Bangor due to malfunctioning traffic lights at the Belfast Road / Ballysallagh Road junction. Please exercise caution and seek an alternative route for your journey where possible."

Ards and North Down MP Stephen Farry said the issue was a "shambles" and that the problem needed to be addressed urgently.

He said: "This is a shambles, and is not safe. Traffic is backing up. Needs sorted urgently."

Phoenix Energy NI has said that they have made the Department for Infrastructure aware of the issue and while they are currently on site, they do not believe the malfunction is in connection with its work.

A spokesperson said: "We have made DFI aware of the issue and they will carrying out the repairs on the traffic signals.

"Our engineers are currently on site and based on the information we have to date, we do not believe that this issue is linked to the works we have been carrying out."

The Department for Infrastructure have been contacted for comment.
