A Co Down couple has been hailed for their generosity after making a donation to help those in desperate need following the Turkey Syria earthquake.
Bangor pensioners Tom and Margaret Gordon were deeply moved by the television pictures of the Turkey Syria earthquake and when they got a chance to help out, they dug deep and donated £600.

The couple were shopping in Bloomfield’s when they saw Belfast Rotary volunteers collecting for ShelterBox which provides temporary homes and equipment for earthquake disaster victims.
“Those poor people have suffered so much,” said Margaret. “We are very fortunate to live here, and it was great to be able to help families in trouble.”
Eric Rainey from the Rotary Club of Belfast thanked the Gordons for their generosity.
“Tom and Margaret, and everyone who has donated, are helping us make a real difference to people who are suffering,” he said.
Rotary has had a long partnership with the ShelterBox charity which delivers essentials to people rebuilding their lives after a disaster.
“We provide emergency shelters, tools and other essentials - whatever it takes to enable people to transform their own lives,” said Kerr Fulton Peebles, ShelterBox District Coordinator.
And even though their weekly shop ended up being more expensive than usual, Tom and Margaret were pleased to make a difference.
“You never miss what a friend gets,” said Margaret with a smile.
