Bangladesh skipper's secret behind the stumps

** WATCH: In episode two of our vodcast series, CWC22 with Jimmy and Kristy, Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty hopes to have plenty to shout about in her nation's debut in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup **

There's a fact that Bangladesh cricket captain Nigar Sultana Joty doesn't want to share.

Not only is Joty the leader of the Bangladesh side making their ODI World Cup debut in New Zealand, she's also keeps wicket for her team, ranked sixth in the world.

She tells Kristy Havill and Jimmy Neesham that it was her cricketing idol growing up, Bangladesh men's livewire keeper Mushfiqur Rahim, who inspired her to take up the gloves.

And while it's her job to do a lot of shouting and chatting behind the stumps, she won't let on just how vocal she'll be in this tournament - an historic moment in her country's cricketing history.

Before Bangladesh won the 2018 Asian Cup - their first major title - few people in their country knew the women's game existed. After being starved of international cricket through Covid, this tournament will be important to show young women in Bangladesh there's a pathway in women's cricket, Joty says.
