Bangladesh natives common factor in 9 dacoities over 6 years in Lucknow

LUCKNOW: The recent arrest of three miscreants, who were allegedly planning to execute a dacoity in posh Gomtinagar area, have brought the focus back on the gang of trained Bangladeshi nationals involved in various incidents of crime in Lucknow.

According to police, as many as nine deadly attacks in the city in the last six years have been led by such Bangladeshi nationals.

Most of these incidents took place in posh colonies of Gomtinagar and Vibhutikhand and a sum of around Rs 1 crore was looted.

Also, over 25 persons were injured in all these assaults.

The cops claimed to have solved all of the cases by arresting 10 members of the gang. However, 10 persons named in the crime are still on the run.

In the recent arrest from the Malhaur area on Sunday, three Bangladeshi nationals were arrested with walkietalkie handsets.

Elaborating on their modus operandi, the police said gang members used to enter India through porous borders, travelled to different states on trains communicating with each other through walkie-talkie, executing loots and escaping back to their countries.

Of all the cases, two attempts of robbery were foiled by the police. These incidents include one on December 9, 2016 at the house of a businessman in Eldeco Colony in Gomtinagar and another was on October 8 last week at the residence of retired chief planner in Virat Khand.

Sources said that one of the main masterminds of the gang Hamza has been on the run.

Lucknow police commissioner, DK Thakur, told TOI that a verification drive will be conducted across the city.

“We have also launched a manhunt against the Bangladeshi nationals who had come for another strike in the city,” he said.

In 2017, Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) had prepared a list of 19 places in the city which happens to be a haven of Bangladeshis. Eight places were in the West region of police, while seven in Trans-Gomti police region, two in Lucknow East police region and three in North police region.

Some suspected areas included were Gulabghat, Musahabganj, Kudiyaghat, Daulatganj in Thakurganj, Ballu Adda in Hazratganj, Priyadarshini Colony in Aliganj, Sector-12 Vikasnagar, Kukrail bridge in Mahanagar, Ujariyaon in Gomtinagar. Senior police officials said the concerned police outpost incharges had been asked to keep a tab in above mentioned areas.
