Officially launched two weeks ago, The Food School Bangkok, the latest culinary institute situated in downtown Bangkok, is now open for specialised short courses and masterclasses, with full professional certificate courses to follow early next year.
The Bangkok-based, 336 million baht project is a joint venture between three globally-recognised institutions: La Scuola Internazionale di Cucina Italiana (ALMA) from Parma, Italy; Tsuji Culinary Institute from Osaka, Japan; and Dusit Thani College, Thailand's leading provider of hospitality education since 1993.
The school is designed to provide multi-cuisine training and business incubation to aspiring chefs and professionals as well as cooking enthusiasts all under one roof. That includes services groundwork for food and beverage startups.
It is also Thailand's first competency-based culinary education academy. It focuses not just on nurturing students' culinary skills but also imbuing them with an entrepreneurial mindset during every certificate course.
Three levels of certificate courses, Essential, Intermediate and Advanced, are available.
There's also a selection of short-course masterclasses taught by highly-celebrated chefs and authorities from the food industry. The classes provide intensive training over two days, making them ideal for experienced learners seeking to further their studies in a particular area.
One-day short courses taught by partner institutes are available as well, with options for all skill levels.
The school's top-tier facility is built for multi-purpose culinary education within a progressive learning environment. The premises boasts state-of-the-art, full-scale kitchens equipped with the industry's best available tools, a number of high-end test kitchens and commercial space for culinary experimentation.
Integration of sustainability concepts are also highlighted. Alongside limiting its environmental impact by implementing zero-waste cooking practices and utilising an industrial composter machine, the school strives to promote farm-to-table partnerships and operations, supporting food ingredients from local agriculture.
The school director Laurent Casteret said: "We are a game changer in Thailand's culinary education scene, offering a curriculum like no other. Students will obtain the most resourceful and dynamic educational programme. Plus, we are a regenerative learning community that promotes all gastronomy possibilities.
"I'm very excited to welcome the first batch of students, and I feel privileged to witness the student's growth in their culinary studies at our school"
