Officials in Bangkok's historic Thon Buri district have proposed peace talks between a temple and a woman in a nearby condominium after her complaint about loud funeral chanting went viral.
District chief Sorawut Wisetsanguan said on Wednesday represenatives from Wat Bang Sakae Nok would meet the complainant and condo staff on Sunday.
The talks were mooted after a video clip showed the woman going to the temple to complain about loud chanting during a funeral ceremony. She asked the monks to tone down the noise, saying it was disturbing her online study in the condominium. The video was posted in April, but did not go viral until Tuesday.
"Are you a Thai?," a man who recorded the video said. "The chanting took only 30 minutes."
The woman said she would take the case to the management team at her condo to forward it to the district office.
Wat Bang Sakae Nok in Talad Phlu area is surrounded by condos. The temple was built 400 years ago, while the condos sprang up after the BTS Silom line was extended from Saphan Taksin to Bang Wa stations..
