Who said revenge had to be served cold?

Camila Cabello has just dropped the break-up single of 2022, and she’s throwing shade at ex Shawn Mendes like there’s no tomorrow.

The track, which was released last Friday, is titled Bam Bam and features guitarist and longtime Taylor Swift collaborator Ed Sheeran. And all things considered, it’s a bop, and the accompanying music video is a hoot, featuring dancing in laundromats, pouring red wine on white dresses and more than a few nasty-looking falls.

“You said you hated the ocean, but you’re surfin’ now,” she sings, before adding: “I said I’d love you for life, but I just sold our house. We were kids at the start, I guess we’re grown-ups now.”

Ouch.

Most of the song, though, is about Cabello picking herself back up and bouncing back after a break-up.

“I was barely standin’, but now I’m dancin’,” she sings alongside a Latin-inspired backing track, with Ed Sheeran providing accompanying vocals about being unlucky in love – despite being happily married to childhood sweetheart Cherry Seaborn.

This isn’t the first time the two artists have worked together: they last collaborated on 2019’s track South of the Border, and have joined forces again as Cabello gets ready to release her new album Familia. Bam Bam is the second track from the album to be released – the first being last year’s Don’t Go Yet.

In a recent interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1’s New Music Daily, Cabello explained that for her, the album was about making music with people she enjoyed spending time with.

“My number one intention was, how can I just make music with people that I want to f*cking have dinner with afterward?” she said. “How can me talking about these things help me build trust with people?”

She also addressed her relationship with Mendes.

After two years of dating, Cabello and the Canadian singer-songwriter announced the end of their relationship in November last year, promising that the two would “continue to be best friends” and stay in each other’s lives.

Talking to Lowe, Cabello explained that in recent years her “priorities have fluctuated” and her “focus has changed”, which impacted their relationship.

“Those years that we were dating, I don’t even feel like, even while I was writing this album, and even still now, I guess, my focus is really on, how can I be a well-rounded person?”

She added: “This album literally was a tool of me becoming a more well-rounded person and acquiring intimacy with my collaborators.”
