Heat center Bam Adebayo has been a name mentioned in regard to a potential Damian Lillard trade between Miami and the Trail Blazers. But the reason for his name being brought up has nothing to do with the 26-year-old being included in the deal. Instead, he’s reportedly been part of the reason for Lillard’s interest in being traded to Miami.
Adebayo and Lillard apparently meshed well and became close during their time playing with Team USA. Adebayo confirmed the friendship between the two and addressed it openly during a media session recently, which Clay Ferraro of WPLG-TV revealed.
During that session, Adebayo stated he and Lillard “continue to be close friends.” Adebayo also discussed the looming trade talks between the Heat and Blazers, stating that “both sides want it to make sense.”
“I don’t know what’s about to happen. The biggest thing is, man, it’s business,” Adebayo told reporters. “Everybody wants it to make sense, everybody on their side on their side—obviously on the other side wants it to make sense, too. I feel like it’s just a waiting game until they make an agreement, if or when it does happen.”
There’s been very little that’s come to light recently in regard to a potential Lillard trade, but at least on the surface, it still appears Miami is the frontrunner and heavy favorite to get a deal done eventually to acquire Lillard.
