NFL player Ben Cleveland, a member of the Baltimore Ravens, has been charged with driving under the influence in Georgia. The incident occurred near Milledgeville, Georgia, last Wednesday, as reported in a sheriff's document obtained by The Associated Press.
According to the incident report, Cleveland was pulled over by a sheriff's deputy after his black pickup truck was seen weaving outside of its lane and almost entering a ditch. Cleveland admitted to consuming three to four beers at a local country club but claimed not to have had any alcohol in the previous two hours. A blood alcohol test revealed a reading of 0.178, exceeding the legal limit in Georgia.
The charges against Cleveland include driving under the influence of alcohol and failing to maintain his lane while driving. Jail records do not indicate an attorney representing Cleveland at this time. The Ravens organization has not yet provided a comment on the situation.
Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 343 pounds, Cleveland, known as 'Big Country' during his college career at the University of Georgia, has played 54 games for the Baltimore Ravens since being drafted in 2021. Despite battling injuries, he has started seven games and primarily contributed on special teams during the previous season.
During the incident in Georgia, Cleveland was wearing a medical boot due to ankle pain, which hindered his ability to perform certain field sobriety tests. Ravens coach John Harbaugh previously recognized Cleveland's performance by awarding him a game ball for blocking a 52-yard field goal attempt in a game against Washington.
