Kentucky is holding elections, including for judicial offices, on Nov. 7, 2023. A number of candidates running in these elections completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.
Below is a selection of responses from the candidates who filled out the survey as of Aug. 9. To read each candidate’s full responses, click his or her name at the bottom of the article.
Allison Spencer Russell (nonpartisan) is running for Jefferson County Family Court 5th Division, and the special general election is on Nov. 7. Here’s how Russell responded to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
“While judges are not tasked with making policy, I’m passionate about transparency when it comes to the judiciary. Courts should be easily accessible to everyone, and that is why it is important to keep in place the remote appearance option that was afforded to everyone during the pandemic. I also support the formation of a more robust online presence for Jefferson Family Court so that litigants can have some knowledge of what is going on with their case.”

“Helping victims of domestic violence get the protection and help they need to get back on their feet. Preventing abuses of the court system. Preventing excessive cost to the low income as well as to the rule followers.”
