Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey: Indiana roundup

Indiana is holding elections, including for municipal and state offices, on Nov. 7, 2023, and Nov. 5, 2024, respectively. A number of candidates running in these elections completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.

Below is a selection of responses from the candidates who filled out the survey as of July 26. To read each candidate’s full responses, click his or her name at the bottom of the article.

Lisa G. Schmitz (R) is running for Indianapolis City Council District 17, and the general election is on Nov. 7, 2023. Here’s how Schmitz responded to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

“Policy that directly impacts the communities within my district; impacting both residents and business owners.”

Andrew Straw (D) is running for attorney general of Indiana, and the general election is on Nov. 5, 2024. Here’s how Straw responded to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

“I took the oath to uphold state and federal constitutions in the United States for 7 law licenses covering 8 states. I am passionate about making constitutional rights a living reality for Hoosiers. I have opposed sexual harassment by public officers in Indiana and I would be an aggressive advocate for domestic violence and workplace discrimination victims. …”
