Indiana is holding elections, including for mayor of Indianapolis, on May 2, 2023. A number of candidates running in these elections completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.
Below is a selection of responses from a candidate who filled out the survey as of March 5. To read his full responses, click his name at the bottom of the article.
Clif Marsiglio (D) is running for mayor of Indianapolis and the primary election is on May 2. Here’s how Marsiglio responded to the question: “What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?”
“My background is in community-based mental health, along with an empirically driven science background. I am passionate about creating a world where the most suffering can thrive, and to life all with it.”
Here’s how Marsiglio responded to the question: “What do you believe is the ideal relationship between your city and the state government?”
“We are the economic driver for the state with 70% of the economy coming from one [county]. We should have a far larger seat at the table, and yet we have our wallets stripped for communities that want nothing more [than] to see us fail. We need to be better stewards to the rest of our state, but with the expectation that they understand we should control our own destiny — not the other way around.”
