Colorado is holding elections, including for school boards and state legislative offices, on Nov. 7, 2023, and Nov. 5, 2024, respectively. A number of candidates running in these elections completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.

Murl Hendrickson IV (Libertarian Party) is running for Colorado House of Representatives District 24, and the general election is on Nov. 5, 2024. Here’s how Hendrickson responded to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
“Auditing the government to make sure their is no wasteful spending robbing the people of their hard earned money. Eliminating as many regulations on churches as possible and fully restoring the First Amendment. Abolishing all gun restrictions, which are unconstitutional.”

Danielle Tomwing (nonpartisan) is running for Aurora Public Schools Board of Education, and the general election is on Nov. 7, 2023. Here’s how Tomwing responded to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
“Our students are struggling to read at grade level and meet proficiency in mathematics … Our students’ academic performance has not returned to pre-pandemic performance levels.
I am passionate about policies that ensure we are culturally responsive to our students to meet their diverse needs. … Our policies should be written through the lens of inclusion, policies that impact both our students and teachers.”
