Balloon Fiesta weather forecast could see temperatures reach 35C in 'extreme heat' weather warning

With an amber weather warning for extreme heat in place this weekend, this year's Balloon Fiesta will be a hot one. In anticipation of this, the organisers announced this afternoon that there would no firework displays after the Thursday and Saturday night glows.

With temperatures forecast to hit 35C at the end of the week, the decision has been made due to dry conditions at Ashton Court Estate. Visitors are also asked not to bring barbecues or camping stoves to the fiesta this year.

Yesterday (August 9), the Met Office issued a four-day amber warning for 'extreme heat' covering a vast part of England and Wales, with temperatures expected to climb to 35C in the South West region. The forecasting service predicts temperatures are likely to rise into the low-to-mid 30s Celsius for central and southern areas of the UK - but temperatures are not expected to be as extreme as those experienced in July when new national records were set.

During the last heatwave on July 18, the Avon area saw its hottest day on record, according to the Met Office. Temperatures hit 35.3C - which was higher than the previous record of 34.7C recorded in 2006.

And, in Bristol, temperatures could reach 35C later this week according to the BBC. Peaking at 33C tomorrow (Thursday, August 11), they will then rise to 35C on Friday and Saturday. They will then drop back slightly to 34C on Sunday, before the city could see some light rain next Monday as temperatures drop to 27C.

However, the Met Office isn't predicting for temperatures to be as high in Bristol this week, staying below 32C according to the forecasting service. The Met Office forecasts that Bristol will see those temperatures from tomorrow until Saturday.

The forecasting service is also predicting that the city will see some rain next Monday after the spell of dry, hot weather. Here is the Met Office forecast for Bristol broken down by day for the rest of this week:
