Baldoyle Viking Festival sees an array of Viking themed activities taking place this weekend.
Now in its second year, Baldoyle Viking Festival takes place this Saturday and Sunday, July 16 and 17 in Baldoyle Racecourse Park. Events and things to do as part of the festival include plenty of crafts, live battle re-enactments, a Viking Village, face painting and a treasure hunt.
Promising fun for all of the family, Baldoyle Viking Festival organiser Paul Kavanagh described to Dublin Live what locals and visitors to the area can expect this weekend.

He said: "In the Viking Village, we're going to have around 50 canvas tents, authentic reproductions from thousands of years ago. For the warrior fighting battle re-enactments, there will be those who are lightly armoured and those who are fully armoured. They have helmets and chains and things like that.
"The fighting that they do is both a visual and audible spectacle. There's a lot of action. The men and women who do this are physically very fit. It's a good a sport as you'll see anywhere. Some of them, they train regularly in this."
Paul's colleague Treasa Kerrigan said of last year's Baldoyle Viking Festival: "We had the first festival last September. We weren't sure how many people were going to come because it was in the middle of Covid and we didn't advertise it a lot.
"It was in a smaller space down beside Baldoyle Community Hall. You could see the Viking long ship against the sea - it was fantastic. We had the battle arena and traders on one green and the Viking Village on the other green.
"The space just wasn't big enough so we decided to move it to the Racecourse Park this year."
Fans of the hit TV show Vikings: Valhalla are in for a treat as a long boat from the show will be on display for the duration of the festival. Baldoyle Viking Festival takes place from 12pm until 5pm this Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17.
