Balbriggan to come alive with cultural events next weekend

A host of cultural events are set to bring Balbriggan to life next weekend.

The series of cultural events will centre around three venues in the North County Dublin town: The Old Bank Building at George’s Square, The Warehouse on Vauxhall Street and 2-4 Dublin Street, formerly Vision Radio.

Kicking things off is Matthew Kelly’s ‘Dear Balbriggan’, a fascinating anthology of the town’s creative talent at the Our Balbriggan Hub at Georges Square on Thursday, December 15. This begins at 6pm and all are welcome to attend.

Following that on December 16 is Balbriggan visual artist and art educator Alison O’Grady’s 60-canvas composition, Ár mBaile, which captures the town painted through the eyes of its people. This will be lectured at 2-4 Dublin Street (beside the Courthouse) at 5.00pm.

Meanwhile The Warehouse on Vauxhall Street will host music and art and engagement on Friday, December 16 between 5pm and 11pm and on Saturday, December 17 from 10am to 6pm. Also taking place on that Friday will be an exhibition from local creatives who submitted an artwork as part of a competition themed on reconnecting with nature. That event will take place at The Warehouse.

The Warehouse event, along with a visual art exhibition at The Old Bank taking place on Friday and Saturday are curated by Italian art historian and visual arts curator Valeria Ceregini. They include the work of acclaimed locally-based artists Darren Rogers and Thomas Brezing.

Darren is the creator of the visually stunning interactive lithophone sculpture, carved from Kilkenny limestone, located in the greenspace by the Martello Tower bandstand.
