Balamory's Edie McCredie 20 years on as Edinburgh-born actress 'unrecognisable'

Edinburgh-born actress Juliet Cadzow has transformed decades on from her memorable stint in Balamory as a school bus driver and mechanic, Edie McCredie.

The 71-year-old appeared on popular children's television programme Balamory, which aired on CBeebies, and was a regular in almost every season, reports the Daily Record. She was also famously known for sliding down the fireman's pole in her home. Twenty years ago, Juliet sported a dark hairdo and bus driver uniform as she drove the Daisy bus. Now, she has blonde locks and is best known for her role as sharp-witted Suzie Fraser in River City.

Julie, who was brought up on a farm in Edinburgh, started her career alongside Billy Connolly in 'The Great Northern Welly Boot Show'. She also appeared in Casualty, The Bill, Taggart, Coronation Street and Still Game. She has recently provided the voice for The Ice Governess in Doctor Who. And now she is back on CBeebies as Mrs Anderson in Molly & Mack.

In her personal life, she is a mother to son Shane and was married to actor and founder of Glasgow's famous 'A Play, A Pie and a Pint' David MacLennon, until his death in 2014.

Two decades on since Balamory first appeared on television, there have been calls to remake the children's programme. And to mark its 20th anniversary in 2022, every episode is now available to watch on the BBC iPlayer. It means a new generation of children will be able to watch all 256 episodes which were produced by the BBC between 2002 and 2005.

The show was based on a fictional small island community off the west coast called Balamory, or in the real world, Tobermory on the Scottish Isle of Mull.
