Baker Mayfield reportedly said that he’s going to ‘(expletive)’ up the Browns in Week 1

It’s difficult to imagine an uglier exit from a team for a former No. 1 overall pick than what Baker Mayfield went through this offseason. And we might now know how Mayfield really feels about the situation.

The Browns signed Deshaun Watson despite 24 civil suits alleging sexual misconduct during massage sessions, leaving Mayfield waiting for an eventual trade out of Cleveland. Once Mayfield landed with the Panthers, he avoided opportunities to take shots at his former team.

But according to Bills sideline reporter Cynthia Frelund, Mayfield had a colorful response ahead of the Panthers’ Week 1 matchup with the Browns. After the Panthers-Bills preseason game, Mayfield said of the Browns — in a brief interaction with Frelund — that he was going “(expletive) them up.”

Here’s the clip from Frelund (NSFW language in the tweet).

Word of those comments made its way over to the Browns because of course it did. But Browns players haven’t been jumping at the chance start a media war with their former quarterback. Myles Garrett said, via Cleveland.com:

“He’s my former teammate. But there’s no rivalry between me and him and there’s no rivalry between the Panthers and the Browns. Yes, he was here, but that doesn’t mean I have an added sense of urgency to get to him. I want to play my best and whatever’s in the cards, that’s it for me. If I can help my team win, if I can put them in the best position to win I’m going to do that, and if I can get a couple sacks along the way, I would kind of enjoy that too.”

He might take a different approach when it comes to facing Baker on the field, though. NFL fans also had thoughts on the bulletin-board material.

This was how Twitter reacted

Yeah, Week 1 should be fun.
