Baker Mayfield is a certified NFL Draft bust. We can say that with absolute certainty after the Cleveland Browns selected him first overall in 2018.
But we can also say that Baker Mayfield has had one of the more entertaining football careers ever.
He was mediocre in Cleveland. Downright bad in Carolina.
But there he was on Thursday, three days after arriving in Los Angeles after the Rams claimed him off waivers, leading an epic last-minute drive to beat Josh McDaniels’ hapless Las Vegas Raiders. It was something else.
You could wonder if Sean McVay can somehow resurrect Mayfield’s career, but I kind of doubt it.
Instead, I want to celebrate just how entertained we’ve been by the QB. He headbutts teammates without a helmet. He’s gone toe-to-toe with Colin Cowherd. He’s given us endless memes, some great commercials, and some epic dance routines.
You go back before that, and the Heisman winner is the same guy who planted the Oklahoma flag in the middle of Ohio State’s giant midfield “O.”
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?
So thank you, Baker Mayfield. Can’t wait to see what’s next … even if it’s more unwatchable football.
