Baker Mayfield pulled a Tom Brady.
The Los Angeles Rams pulled off a stunning 17-16 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday Night Football as Mayfield, who has been a Ram for all of two days, led a 98-yard touchdown drive in the final minute.
The victory mirrored what The GOAT did for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers against the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football.
Trailing by the same score, with about five minutes left, score a pair of touchdowns to snatch victory from certain defeat.
The game-winning TD pass went from Mayfield to Van Jefferson and covered 23 yards with 10 seconds left.
Matt Gay kicked the extra point and the Rams’ six-game winning streak was over, as was the Raiders’ three-game winning streak.
The 8-play, 98-yard drive took 1:35. It was helped along by a foolish penalty on Las Vegas’ Jerry Tillery, who knocked the football from Mayfield’s hands after a play was over and cost his team 15 yards.
Cam Akers had scored on a short run with a little more than three minutes left to cut the 16-3 deficit to 16-10, setting up Mayfield’s heroics.
Mayfield was cut by the Carolina Panthers earlier in the week and picked up off waivers by the Rams. He learned the playbook — quite well — on his flight to Los Angeles.
John Wolford started but Mayfield came on and went 22-of-35 for 230 yards and the game-winning touchdown.
