Bake Off viewers furious about addition to biscuit favourite

We've all got our favourite biscuits and goodness knows we don't want them messed with. But for week two of the Bake Off, viewers were up in arms tonight (Tuesday) about one addition to a much-loved favourite.

The challenge, as presented by Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas, was to create a garibaldi. Matt announced: "For this week's technical challenge, Pru would like you to make 12 garibaldi biscuits."

Here, Noel injected a little levity, adding: "Otherwise known as squashed fly biscuits on account of the dried fruit looking a little bit like squashed flies."

Sadly, when food supremo and judge Prue Leith got her hands on the classic recipe, she was prepared to make major changes. Including the addition of chocolate - a bridge too far for baking fans.

Rachel Vincent @welshdaisy tweeted: "#GBBO since when do you put chocolate on a garibaldi biscuit and it's only supposed to be currants not cranberries!! How dare they."

Amy Stokes @amystokes_ said: "Chocolate?? On a garibaldi biscuit?? In this economy??? #GBBO"

Jane Greenstock @greenstocking25 tweeted: "I don't think anyone should be judged harshly for not being able to make chocolate covered Garibaldi biscuits when they are, in fact, not a thing #gbbo"

Paws @Clays2Game_Lady added her tuppenceworth: "Woah woah woah, since when do #SquashedFlyBiscuits aka Garibaldi biscuits, have chocolate on them?! #gbbo"

Pragmatic to the last, George Reeves @GeorgeReeves94 said: "I've never heard of a chocolate garibaldi before either, but tbf covering it in chocolate may be the only way to save a garibaldi from being the worst of all biscuits #GBBO"

The Great British Bake Off is on Tuesdays at 9pm on Channel 4, or on catch-up on All 4.
