Bake Off star Ruby Tandoh's changing looks post show - from bald to purple locks

Great British Bake Off alum Ruby Tandoh has undergone some dramatic hair transformations since finding fame as a contestant on the popular show almost a decade ago.

The baker, now 30, appeared on the fourth series of the show, which aired on BBC Two in 2013. She became a fan favourite over the course of the series that year.

She reached the final of the competition, where she placed as a joint runner-up with Kimberley Wilson, now 39. The winner of the series was Frances Quinn, now 40.

Quite a lot has happened over the nine years since Ruby was on the GBBO, including her sporting several different hairstyles, such as a shaved look as well as purple highlights.

Ruby announced that she'd shaved her head in 2016, saying at the time that she'd been "hiding behind [a] big mop of hair". She teased: "Bye curls. Hello being unapologetic."

The food writer and cookbook author has since grown her hair back and she even showcased purple highlights in a selfie that was shared a couple of years ago.

More recently though, posts on her Instagram show her with curly locks similar to her hairstyle on the GBBO, in a shorter and less colourful style that she had once opted for.

There's been transformations elsewhere in her life since appearing on the show though, including having become a best-selling author and writing for outlets like The Guardian.

Her debut cookbook Crumb was released in 2014, the year after she reached the final of the GBBO. She has since followed it up with Flavour and Eat Up!

She has more recently launched Cook As You Are, which includes more than 100 recipes that have been described as "delicious, affordable and achievable" for home cooks.

There's also been change in her personal life over recent years, with Ruby having married her partner Leah Pritchard in an intimate ceremony that was held in Sheffield in 2018.

Ruby had shared that she was bisexual a few years earlier and had 'come out' to her followers on Twitter in a post on the social media platform back in 2015.

Her announcement included a reference to GBBO judge Paul Hollywood, in response to viewers having suspected chemistry between them when she was on the show.

She tweeted: "P.s. for those who thought I fancied Paul Hollywood or that I’d ever bang him to get ahead - JOKE'S ON YOU, YOU MASSIVE S****ING MISOGYNISTS."

Paul didn't appear impressed though, responding to her tweet: "Very happy for you Ruby... but why do you feel it necessary bringing me into your announcement?"

There was further tension the following year when it was announced that the GBBO would be moving to Channel 4 from the BBC, with Paul deciding to remain on the show.

GBBO had originally been on the BBC (BBC)

Ruby criticised him for not following in the footsteps of his co-stars Mary Berry, Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc who decided to quit the show amid its changing broadcaster.

She described the GBBO judge as a "peacocking manchild lingering wherever the money is" in a tweet at the time. She later teased that she posted the tweet for her friends.

The former contestant later said she didn't "lose sleep" over the situation and admitted she doesn't watch the show anymore, with the theme tune making her "feel sick".
