The Great British Bake Off's Carole exits Channel 4 show after tough desserts week

Carole exited The Great British Bake Off amid a disaster week for the supermarket cashier.

The baker became the next casualty of the tent as the show returned for another episode on Channel 4. Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith offered their scathing verdicts on the bakers as they were challenged during desserts week.

As part of the fan favourite week, the remaining bakers were tasked with making eight perfect steam puddings, whilst they tackled a classic lemon meringue in the technical challenge. For the showstopper, they had to make a sponge cake with a special surprise inside. Hosts Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding were on hand to give out the results as the remaining bakers waited for the verdict.

It was then revealed to them that Sandro had been named Star Baker, whilst the others were at risk of leaving the infamous tent. As tensions built around the tent, Matt and Noel confirmed that Carole would be leaving the show.

Everyone was emotional as they bid their farewell to the baker, who shared some sweet memories of their time on the show. The competition is heating up, with just a few weeks to go until the 2022 winner will be crowned.

It had been a mixed week for the bakers. In the steamed pudding challenge, Carole suffered an early disaster when her hot water wasn't up to temperature enough and her puddings collapsed as she took them out of the moulds.

As they took on the technical challenge, the group burst out into laughter as they were handed their recipe method. They turned the paper over, there was just a temperature for the oven to be set at. The other instruction read "make a lemon meringue pie".

Prue warned of the risk of "soggy bottoms" for those who didn't blind bake their pie cases, as the bakers worked on their lemon filling and meringue, made from egg whites and sugar. For some, they achieved the perfect pie - whilst others suffered with cracked bases.

In the showstopper challenge, the bakers were tasked with creating a sponge with a hidden surprise.

There was a multitude of exciting bakers in the final round, but Syabira had some heartache as her bee decoration broke. She ensured it was placed in the correct place, but as she poured the final liquid layer on top, it all moved out of place.

Others tried a mirror glaze, with Abdul's planet cake proving a huge hit as Prue described it as "the best mirror glaze" he had ever seen.
