The father of NRL star David Fifita has been refused bail after a string of alleged offences, including entering an elderly man's home while he slept.
In another alleged incident, Siaosi Teisina Fifita, 44, was found hiding from police behind a garbage bin in a stranger's garden.
Fifita has been in custody for 50 days after being charged with 13 offences between June 2021 and October 2022, Brisbane Supreme Court heard on Tuesday.
Nine offences were committed while on bail, the Crown alleged.
Justice Sean Cooper said they were not the most serious charges, with four punishable by fines.
However, he was concerned with Fifita's history of breaching court orders and prior offending while on bail.
Fifita had committed 59 offences while on bail previously, the court was told.
In addition, Fifita had been convicted of numerous offences committed in breach of parole, probation, suspended sentences and intensive drug rehabilitation orders, Justice Cooper said.
Fifita had also previously been convicted of failing to appear four times.
For the current alleged offences alone, the applicant has failed to appear on seven occasions, Justice Cooper said.
Fifita, of Redbank Plains, was charged with four traffic offences in June 2021 including repeat unlicensed driving, the court heard.
While on bail, his string of charges included an alleged incident in February 2022 when police noticed a vehicle with another car's registration plates.
Officers followed it to a residence where Fifita was found in a stranger's yard hiding behind bins.
In the same month, Fifita entered a home through a sliding door but as he moved around the kitchen he woke up an elderly man who was sleeping inside, the court heard.
They had a short discussion before Fifita left.
The Crown alleges Fifita can be identified on CCTV footage by his physical appearance including tattoos.
"The charge of entering a dwelling is the most serious offence among the charges ... but again the circumstances suggest it is not the most serious example of that type of offence," Justice Cooper said.
"There is no indication that the applicant acted in a threatening manner towards the occupant of the dwelling."
His lawyer said Fifita had a significant 15-page criminal history but indicated his last serious offence was back in 2019.
In proposed bail conditions, Fifita was willing to attend a rehabilitation program, reside with his mother-in-law, report to police three days a week, provide drug and alcohol tests on demand and submit to a curfew.
His estranged wife said in a statement Fifita was suffering significant mental and physical impairment.
A medical certificate provided said Fifita had anxiety, depression and septicemia.
Justice Cooper said there was some risk that Fifita may spend too much time in custody if not released on bail.
However, he said it did not outweigh the significant risk of Fifita committing further offences while on bail.
"I am not satisfied that the applicant has established his detention in custody is not justified and accordingly bail is refused," Justice Cooper said.
Fifita is set to appear in Richlands Magistrates Court on Friday.
