Bahrain has detected its first monkeypox case, the state news agency BNA said on Friday, citing the health ministry.
The ministry said the patient was returning from abroad when his symptoms were suspected and diagnosed, BNA added.
"The patient, a 29-year-old male expatriate, has arrived in the Kingdom after recent travels abroad," it said.
"The patient is experiencing symptoms and has been isolated while receiving the necessary care, based on the adopted protocols," it added.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Wednesday that monkeypox cases were on a downtrend in the world but urged countries to keep up the fight.
