Bag of excrement flung at Minister Anne Rabbitte in horror incident

Junior Minister Anne Rabbitte has voiced her disgust after a bag containing excrement was thrown at her and a colleague yesterday evening.

The politician told her Twitter followers that the alleged assault took place at a government meeting yesterday evening. She mentioned that a colleague was also targeted in the encounter, although she did not disclose their identity in the Tweet.

Ms Rabbitte wrote: “Attended a meeting tonight and a bag of sh** thrown at me and my government colleague.”

Several politicians strongly condemned the behaviour and offered their sympathies to Ms Rabbitte following the post. Green Party Senator Pauline Reilly criticised the distressing behaviour and called on all members of government to condemn the act, regardless of their political background.

Meanwhile, Green Party Minister Pippa Hackett led calls for the individual responsible for the alleged assault to face prosecution. She wrote on Twitter: “Solidarity with my government colleague Anne Rabbitte, who was doing her job, as she does every day with compassion and commitment. What a disgusting thing to do. We can’t allow anybody to be treated like this- I hope the perpetrator is identified and prosecuted.”

Fine Gael TD Neale Richmond also sympathised with Ms Rabbitte following the ordeal, while her Fianna Fail colleague John Lahart slammed the incident as “disgusting” and “unacceptable.” Ms Rabbitte did not expand with any further details on Twitter.
