Mikey Madison dedicated her EE BAFTA Award for Best Actress to sex workers.
The 25-year-old actress starred as the titular sex worker in the movie 'Anora' and after beating off competition from Cynthia Erivo ('Wicked'), Karla Sofía Gascón, ('Emilia Pérez'), Marianne Jean-Baptiste, ('Hard Truths'), Mikey Madison, ('Anora') Demi Moore, ('The Substance') and Saoirse Ronan, ('The Outrun'), she called for more acceptance for those in the industry in real life.
Speaking live on stage during the ceremony on Sunday (16.02.25), she said: ""I do want to take a moment to recognize the sex worker community. You deserve respect, and human decency. I will always be an ally, and implore others to do the same."
Mikey admitted that she "wasn't expecting" the award at all, and had been completely unprepared as she had not bothered to write a speech.
She said: "Thank you so much, I wasn't expecting this at all. I probably really should have listened to my publicist and wrote a speech!"
The star also made sure to thank her mother for her dedication in helping to build he career over the years, and admitted that she was "in awe" of all of her fellow nominees.
She added: "I wanna thank my mom, she's not here but she has driven me to literally hundreds of auditions, helped me put so many on tape, helped me with my lines and she is mu favourite scene partner. I love you, mommy.
"To my fellow nominees, I am in awe of all of you. You all gave beautiful performances, really eh highlight of all of this has been getting to know all of you. But yeah, gosh, I don't know there are so many people I'm forgetting to thank.
