Those watching the 2022 BAFTA s on Sunday night noticed one very famous late actress missing from the emotional 'In Memoriam' segment.
Throughout the star-studded event at the Royal Albert Hall, the film awards took a moment to remember those in the industry who have passed away since the last ceremony
As a video montage paid tribute to recently departed stars such as Italian actress Monica Vitti and cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, viewers watching at home noticed Betty White was missing from the list of much-missed icons.
"Excuse me @BAFTA, but where was Betty White on the In Memoriam," one angry fan vented on Twitter as the show aired on BBC One.
"bafta sucks for not paying tribute to ed asner and betty white," another fumed, as a third added: "Where was Betty White in the #BAFTAs in memoriam section @BAFTA???"
Betty's sad death was announced o n New Year's Eve 2021 - just weeks before the legendary actress was set to celebrate her milestone 100th birthday with a huge celebration and a star-studded movie release in her honour.
As the BAFTAs paid tribute to other late stars on Sunday night, the Academy took to Twitter to also share a link to a "tribute to the artists who made a significant contribution to the film industry who sadly died in the last year" on their website.
Golden Girls star Betty is included under the 2021 deaths listed on the site.
"Overall, White won six Emmys from 23 nominations and was the recipient of its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015," part of the BAFTA tribute reads.
"In 2010, she was presented with BAFTA Los Angeles’ Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy, given in honour of Charlie Chaplin."
The website tribute didn't do much to appease those who wondered where the late star's shout out was on the evening.
"#BAFTAs #BAFTA2022 #BAFTA how come Betty White wasn't mentioned in Memoriam she died on 31st December 2021, that's terrible," another took to Twitter to express their disappointment on Sunday night.
Some argued that given Betty's work was primarily in TV, she wasn't eligible to appear in the moving tribute.
Many quickly hit back to point out that the late star had made cameos in Hollywood movies such as The Proposal, alongside Sandra Bullock, and animations like Toy Story 4 and The Lorax.
Just weeks before the Golden Girls actress passed away at the age of 99, it had been announced that a movie was in the works to honour her 100th birthday.
The late star had planned to welcome fans to join her in celebrating her milestone birthday on January 17 2022, filming scenes for a project that was due to be released in movie theatres across the United States.
Titled Betty White: 100 Years Young - A Birthday Celebration, the documentary-style movie also boasts a star-studded line up - including cameos from Ryan Reynolds, Tina Fey, Robert Redford, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman and James Corden.
