The nasty social media backlash that Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield have received after being falsely accused of queue-jumping has led to a miserable atmosphere backstage on This Morning.
The TV presenting duo, who are at the helm of the ITV morning show, were hit with severe trolling after being falsely accused of skipping the public queue when seeing Queen Elizabeth II lying-in-state.
Holly and Phil were in the media queue as they were reporting from Westminster and did not jump the line.
A source has told The Sun that the atmosphere is "miserable" backstage of This Morning since the row erupted.
The source added: "You can cut the atmosphere with a knife backstage.
“The mood is awful behind the scenes and this isn’t going away. Everyone hopes it blows over soon."
There has been a heap of negativity towards the usually beloved duo, ever since they were seen walking past the queue with the show's editor Martin Frizell.
Holly has stated that they had gone to see the Queen lying-in-state as accredited broadcasters.
The 41-year-old TV star also added: "It was strictly for the purpose of reporting on the event for millions who weren’t able to visit in person.”
Viewers have been unhappy about it and a petition to have her and Phillip, 60, removed from the ITV show has topped 45,000 signatures.
When the pair returned to our screens, there was some concern among viewers about Holly's appearance, saying she looks distraught.
"Holly looks like she's been crying all night," one viewer Tweeted. Another said: "Holly has never been so quiet. I don’t envy anyone in the public eye."
A third remarked: "Holly completely Not Herself." Another added: "Is Holly ok? She’s not looking herself. She looks like she’s been crying before going on air."
Some viewers have remarked that Holly has spent "three sleepless nights crying" about the queue-jumping scandal.
